Back to School Sparks New Beginnings

Have you been too busy keeping your kids occupied all summer to invest any time in your job search? Or maybe you chose to spend every free moment of our short Buffalo summer on the beach. You’re not alone!

Although we may be slightly biased and believe that any time of the year is a great time to search for a new job, there honestly is no better time to do it than now. Refreshed after a fun summer, kids are motivated and excited to start a new school year, and you should feel the same about your job search! This is a natural time of the year for change and a fresh start, for the employed and unemployed, as summer comes to an end. Take advantage of this less hectic time to make a change in your career.

If the natural motivation doesn’t kick in, here are three reasons why the “back to school” season is the perfect time to commence your job search.

  1. Perfect productive gap between summer and the holidays
  2. If you said all summer long that you will get to your job search once summer is over, be careful not to wait too long. The holiday season will quickly sneak up, which could arguably be more chaotic than summer. You will find yourself pre-occupied with family activities, and hiring managers will be in the same boat. Companies will be slower to make hiring decisions during the holidays as they are in and out of the office, and they aim to be fully staffed by that point. The period between summer and the holiday season is not only the perfect break for you to have time to focus on your job search, but hiring managers will actually have the time to hire as well.

  3. Cash flow
  4. At the beginning of the year, companies are usually more reluctant to hire as they have a budget to stick to and a whole year ahead of them. As Q3 is coming to end, they start to realize how much money they have left to work with. If they were cautious with their spending during the first half of the year, they are now looking to use up the rest of their hiring funds.

  5. Candidates’ market!
  6. We can’t say it enough. With the unemployment rate being so low, companies are getting desperate for great talent. If you are looking to make a change, now is the time to do it.

While the “back to school” season begins, focus on getting the job you want. Who doesn’t love an excuse for a fresh start? (All the cool kids are doing it.)
Cheers to new beginnings!
